Valencia Festival of Media

24 March 2009 767 views No Comment

After two years in the city of Venice, the world’s first global festival for the media industry will be moving to Valencia in 2009. The Festival will be held 19 – 21 April 2009.

The City of Arts and Sciences will host the 2009 Festival of Media Gala Dinner and the Palacio de Congresos will provide the perfect base for the business of the Festival, hosting the conference, the exhibition and offering meeting space for partners and delegates who wish to organise private meetings during the time of the Festival.

About the Festival

festival-media-awards-valencia-2009The Festival of Media is the world’s first global festival of media creativity and innovation. It is still the only event dedicated to global marketers, media agencies and media vendors in an advertising industry that is undergoing many profound changes. In its third year, it has become a must attend two day conference offering unrivalled networking opportunities at a conference and exhibition designed to showcase the best creative media thinking and explore emerging media opportunities.

This year celebrates the launch of the inaugural Festival of Media Awards (FMAs), a global awards programme for the media industry designed to reflect the radical changes taking place in the communications business.

History

The Festival of Media was launched in 2007 in Venice, as the world’s first global festival of media creativity. In its first year, it attracted over 450 of the international media advertising community’s most senior directors and was welcomed as an important new addition to the media business calendar. The second Festival in 2008 doubled in size – with over 850 delegates attending – and established the event as a must attend occasion.

2009 Festival of Media

Held in its new home of Valencia, the 2009 Festival of Media will be comprised of the following key elements:

  • A two day conference involving the senior leaders of the world’s most influential advertisers, media and advertising agencies and media owners as speakers; provoking debate and showcasing excellence.
  • The Media Laboratory exhibition, showcasing international media opportunities and emerging channels.
  • The Festival of Media Awards (FMAs), a global awards programme for the media industry designed to reflect the radical changes taking place in the communications business.
  • Social events providing the ultimate in high-level industry networking.

Four key reasons for moving from Venice to Valencia

In newspapers and travel magazines across the world, Valencia is being hailed as one of the globe’s most exciting cities. Delegates to The Festival of Media from the 19th – 21st April 2009 will be treated to a city that has dedicated itself to finding the perfect balance between business and pleasure. Festival goers will enjoy the fine Mediterranean climate and international transport links are either direct or via a short internal flight (or high speed rail link from Barcelona).

On explaining the choice of Valencia, Charlie Crowe commented: “This year, Spain has been winning our tennis tournaments, picking up our football trophies and resurgent Spanish businesses appear to be buying up all our banks, airports and creating the coolest brands. Perhaps all this was in our thoughts when we visited! Valencia has everything the Festival needs, and more– and allows us to create an even better experience for our delegates and commercial partners.”

The conference will be housed in the Norman Foster-designed Palacio de Congresos de Valencia, a facility that recently announced its low carbon status through roof-mounted solar panels that supply all of the venue’s electricity needs, as well as supplying power back into the national grid. The Palacio offers a far higher level of comfort and technology than the previous Venetian home of the Palazzo del Cinema. There are two state-of-the-art conference arenas plus more rooms for break-outs, as well as a number of impressive spaces for exhibitions and screenings. The Gala Dinner in Valencia’s City of Arts and Science, designed by Santiago Calatrava, will offer a stunning setting and memorable conclusion to the 2009 event.

Most cities in Europe are cheaper for the business traveler than Venice, and Valencia is no exception! Hotel costs themselves are, on average, 36% cheaper than Venice, yet there is still the same mix of luxury, business and charming independent. Getting around Valencia will also be less expensive, with a single Venetian water taxi bill amounting to a single day’s worth of cabs. Thus Valencia offers the industry great value for money in a year when the efficiency of all investments will be under scrutiny.

“Our feedback from the Festival this year suggested that delegates wanted to make full use of their limited time, especially to network with the extremely high caliber of delegates that attended the event. So the waiting times for water taxis and the inherent sprawling nature of this amazing city were becoming more of a hindrance than a benefit.” Charlie Crowe

Valencia is a city being reborn for an internationally connected world, where brilliant facilities, reliable digital networks and top travel links have to go hand-in-hand with exceptional tourist sights, places of historic interest and fine quality hotels. As Spain’s third largest city, Valencia offers the traveller an insight into how cities are changing in the global economy and a rich pool of dynamic young consumers who are making Valencia one of the coolest places in Europe. Valencia offers a better balance for a festival where enjoyment must also accompany the imperatives of business networking and deal-making – all crucial parts of The Festival of Media’s attraction to pioneering media companies and progressive global clients.
