Modern Art: Moisés Mahiques and Charley Case in Sala Parpalló
As we have come to expect since 1981, Sala Parpalló showcases the work of the artists awarded the Alfons Roig visual arts scholarships. Widely regarded as one of the most important grants in the Valencian Community, not only for its reputation as a distinction supporting the tradition of the new in all its manifestations as well as the recognised quality of the works by the winning artists, but also for the prestige of its jury members who, year after year, evaluate the quality of the artists.
For this year’s edition the jury comprised Román de la Calle, Álvaro de los Ángeles, Nuria Enguita, Estrella de Diego and Ana de Miguel, Director of Sala Parpalló. One of the artists awarded in this 21st event is Moisés Mahiques (Quatretonda, Valencia, 1976), who is now presenting his three latest series: Sex Happening Location; Violence Happening Location; and Disaster Happening Location in the exhibition “Sweet Illness”.
Sala Parpalló has also scheduled an exhibition of a multidisciplinary artist, Charley Case, well known for his work as an illustrator for the newspapers The Guardian and Le Soir and his graphic work, inseparable from his videos, photographs, performances and installations. All his work is characterised by his concern for the human race and the relationship between systems (life, ecosystem, politico-social matters, etc.). Thanks to his nomadic life, he has become a chronicler of his time, for he draws, photographs and films everything he sees, feels and senses, producing a work marked by social commitment in a very personal style, which endows his documentaries with a lucid and poetic touch.
