Bioparc receives Thomas, a gorilla from the Netherlands
At 9.45 yesterday morning Thomas came to Bioparc, a young black back gorilla to join the singles group of gorillas.
Bioparc project for the development and welfare of its gorillas is still being completed. So far, they had a breeding group of gorillas, made up of Mambi, a male silverback, together with the females Dorl and Fossey. Right next to these, in Bioparc there is one space for the group of single male gorillas, where is Jitu, the oldest of all the male silverback. Recently, Bioparc received two young gorillas to be incorporated in this group, Kabuli, who arrived from Germany last week and Thomas, who has come from the Netherlands yesterday.
Thomas is a male gorilla from the zoo of Rotterdam (Netherlands) where it was born on 29 December 2002. A bit small for his age, Thomas is a specimen that continues to grow strong and restless and who is more than accustomed to living in groups, as was raised in a very large one.
A specialized team of Bioparc traveled to Rotterdam to pick up the new gorilla and know his habits. As it is customary in the transport of intelligent animals like gorillas, Thomas has come together with his caregiver, who will remain with him for a few days to facilitate the period of acclimation to his new home.
The arrival of the new gorilla Thomas, completes the group proposed by the coordinator of the gorillas breeding programs EAZA, who chose Bioparc after a meeting with 600 professionals in Copenhagen for the procreation of a highly endangered specie.
