4 February 2010 572 views No Comment
The 33rd edition of the America’s Cup, the world’s oldest sailing competition, will be held in Valencia from 8th February. However, the sporting and cosmopolitan atmosphere will disembark in the city a few days before that. On the 5th February there will be a welcome party for the whole America’s Cup family, the official competition dinner will be on the 6th and on the 7th the opening ceremony will take place with a mascletà (firecracker) display by the Caballer pyrotechnics company. The Swiss from the Alinghi team and the North Americans from the BMW Oracle team will battle it out aboard their magnificent 27.5 metre catamarans, which are equipped with 30 metre tall masts and cutting edge technology. Sailing enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the lively competition from the dock; both the entry and departure of the catamarans, and the terrific sporting and leisure atmosphere. The return of the America’s Cup represents yet another success for the city of Valencia in its commitment to holding major sporting events. The competition will have an audience of approximately 2 billion viewers and will be available to watch live and free of charge via www.americascup.com
