One again Valencia is immersed in the preparations for its most international festivity: “Las Fallas”. From 15th to 19th March, the city is transformed into an explosion of colours, aromas, magic and joy. Spring is about to begin and the city’s festivities extend their warmest welcome.

From March 1st the smell of gunpowder seizes the city with its “mascletaes”, musical explosions that shake the bones of even the calmest spectators, whilst as of 15th March the city’s streets play host for four intense days to more than 700 satirical monuments .

Las Fallas in ValenciaThe most important days are 17th and 18th, when thousands of “falleras” wear their best silken regional costumes to parade before la Geperudeta, the patron of Valencia, offering tons of flowers that will form the mantle of the city’s Virgin. What’s more, all those wishing to enjoy spectacular fireworks will have an appointment every night next to the old Turia riverbed, while the more sweet-toothed won’t be able to avoid sampling the traditional “buñuelos” (pancakes) with chocolate, a typical treat during these festivities, which come to a close on the 19th, when teary-eyed Valencian observe with resignation as the monuments perish in flames.
