In November 1936, the most important works from the Prado Museum and other masterpieces of the Spanish heritage such as ‘Las Meninas’, among others, traveled by decision of the Government of the Republic from Madrid to Valencia in order to be protected from bombing that the nation was suffering after the outbreak of the Civil War.
It was a real “adventure” to safeguard some of the Spanish key pieces which is now alive with the exhibition ‘Arte Salvado’ (Art saved) that can be seen at La Nau, the historical building of the University of Valencia.
