Unique thunderous rhythm in Valencia

“Las Fallas” wouldn’t be complete without “mascletaes”, which begin on 1st March and continue up to the end of the festivities on the 19th. At 2.00 o’clock each afternoon, Valencians and visitors gather in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to enjoy the vibrant explosions of more than 100 kg of gunpowder, set off within a five minute period and which create a unique, thunderous rhythm.

Win a trip to Valencia with your own ninot creation

Valencia is working thoroughly to attract Japanese tourists. It is one of the few cities in Spain that has a quality website in Japanese (in terms of translation and content). Valencia has targeted online campaigning for the Japanese market for years, and it is continually improving its content.
The campaign this year is a website in Japanese only, which takes advantage of multimedia content, such as a video of a Japanese girl who has visited Valencia (obviously speaking in Japanese) thanks to the online game “Ninots Contest”.

Europe’s biggest street festival in numbers

Valencia’s biggest festival, Las Fallas, takes place every March with a hectic week of city firecrackers, fireworks and parades in honour of Saint Joseph, attracting around two million people.
The city is adorned with a myriad of papier maché effigies (ninots) – film stars, politicians and anyone of local, national or international notoriety have their space as colourfully lampooned caricature as a 15 or 20 foot model.
